I wrote much of my doctoral dissertation on a Powerbook of that vintage.

Mac Mini now, last one a Mini, before that a G5 - seem to get four or five years out of ‘em, then the power supply goes and it’s cheaper to get a new one.

I do the same thing every time - new Mini and I immediately put in all the RAM it will take.

If it can interface with alien computers. Your fine then.

Precision M4800. I’m all backwards. My desktop mac mini is for basic stuff and my laptop is for actual work. Should be the other way around.

Good memories. Back when 450mb was a lot of space....

Lol. One of my friends puts those stickers on everything, I give him mine when I get a new phone but it’s hilarious. He’s got one on his LG TV, his iPad Case his PS4, and even one of his ceiling fan blades.

Do you have a dell fetish as well? Your love of old computers fascinates me (I actually have a couple of random workstations in my storage-unit-of-mysteries. Dec alphastation, sgi indy & onyx. and something else random that I can’t remember. Probably sun something)

Back from when I still liked Macs.

I really don’t understand the whole rivalry between Mac and PC. I use both everyday.

Its like coke vs Pepsi. You prefer one but drink the other depending on what is available.

I don’t mind the software at all or really take part in the rivalry. I just got upset when they switched the Mac to screw/wrench patterns that they didn’t sell to the general public. I used to love tinkering/modding.

I always thought those old powerbooks looked cool - very functional, ready to do important stuff.

Wow those are some rare breeds of workstations you’ve got.

I’m not particularly picky about Dell (I don’t like most of their consumer stuff and my Dad has an XPS 8700 which is quite frankly garbage IMO). I have an old XPS T600 that serves as a retroPC and my laptop is a Latitude E7450.

No, someone else on Oppo bought it from me.

Dell XPS 435 desktop with i7 920 desktop from some 6+ years ago, still working like a beast for Plex, photo editing, and all my storage, and Dell XPS 13" carbon fiber with i5 and 8GB of RAM for my laptop. Plus, Dell E5550 Latitude at work. I love nice, high-ish end Dell computers. Their cheap stuff, not so much.

Why? I have one and haven't had any issues at all and I think I'm at 4 years on it now.

I have a 2013 air but I just ended up wanting more power. It’s not a bad computer, it just wasn’t the one for me

I also have a full cd set of openvms for the dec, for a year or two (HP owns it now i think?) there was a weird enthusiast program where you could send off for a copy. Same thing with hp-ux, but i don’t have anything to run it on
